By now we all know what ebooks are, so there is no need for me to explain them. Same thing with the iPad, we know what it is, but did you also know its a Kindel or any other ebook reader killer! I will tell you why, cause this thing has an App for anything. I have had the privilege to use a few of these newer readers, even Barnes and Nobels new one, they are all kinda plain. And plain is an over statement! For about 150$ more you can get an iPad, that just does so much more. First of all, there are already a ton of Apps, and quite a few of them are free. Not to get too far off the subject, here are a few of the programs that I have found turn the iPad into an all in one Ebook reader.
First off, you can find plenty of PDF readers in the app store, but my favorite one and it also happens to be the most versatile is GoodReader.
- MS Office – .doc, .ppt, .xls and more
- iWork’08/’09
- HTML and Safari webarchives
- High resolution images
- It even does audio and video!
The GoodReader can pretty much handle every kind of text document as well as view pictures and play music. Its is cheap as well at only .99 cents. One of the features I like best about this program is that you can upload files directly from your computer via wi-fi or through an online client like DropBox,
-
Access your Dropbox on the go
All the contents of your Dropbox are available for viewing. You can even stream music and movies in your Dropbox straight to your iPad.
-
Upload files and sync them to your Dropbox
Upload photos from your iPad and email its public link to a friend in less than a minute.
-
Share links to files in your Dropbox
Yes! Any file in your Dropbox!
which gives you 2gb of free file storage you can share with anyone.
Another great free App is BookMan, who also happens to be a wordpresser! Anyways, the reason I also have this book reader is that it can read two file types that the GoodReader can’t.
Here are some of its features:
- Fast rendering engine with smart loading system.
- Quickly show thumbnails of entire document.
- Support large PDF format over 100MB, and ZIP/CBZ containing image files.
- High-speed transfer your PDF files to iPad from iTunes using the File Sharing.
One of the odd files you see is CBZ or CBR, unless you are a comic book reader this format id foreign to you. More info can be found here, but basically is the format that comic book readers use to view their comic Ebooks so to say.
So whether your into reading comic books, browsing through magazines and digging deep into a good novel or some book for dummy’s. With these Apps and a Dropbox Add on, you can open a whole new world of reading material for about 150 more than the best ebook readers on the market. Get an iPad!
